ABOUT US

From experience, the key to running a successful business is choosing the right people —good attitude and customer service. Our team at "Yew & Bow" are up to that challenge: alongside myself will be Molly Saywell and Zoe Condon and we have all worked very hard to make our new store a place that entices and welcomes you.

Let’s step back in time: our cafe (Colin & Yvonne) "Our Dining Table" was never in any doubt. But what to do with the old bank — two small rooms that hadn’t had much love in a very long time.

The idea of a gift shop was germinating like all good things do in the months of Spring, but not any old gift shop. What would our point of difference be? Organic, earthy and community — a triple brie of goodness (no, we are not selling cheese!), or perhaps the Holy Trinity! No offence intended. Our vision — it had to be natural, ethically produced, and handcrafted. No ifs or buts.

Ok, now you ask, how did we come up with the name "Yew & Bow”? Yews belong in folklore and, as such, live to a great age. Bow is a nod to respect — bowing one’s head. So, with inspiration from Sonia (thank you), "Yew & Bow" was born — a toast to longevity and respect for our community.

The next step was off to the Reed Gift Fair (Melbourne) in August: reminded me very much of a Turkish bazaar or a Chinese hyper market. I had a clear vision about what I wanted — Australian-made products or Australian-based companies that imported products (they had to know their suppliers). With these two objectives in mind, I narrowed down the field of “peddlers". Here are a selection of our purveyors:

* Elume (NSW) — hand poured fragrant candles

* Small Batch Ceramics (NSW) – made lovingly in their Botany studio

* Equilibrium Natural Collection (NSW) – aromatherapy in a bottle

* Jeremy Boot Collection – fine bone China cups designed with our most familiar and iconic bird varieties around Briagolong: blue wren, kookaburra, and Magpies

* Barebones (QLD) — a range of camping tools to garden tools

* Sweet Disorder (NZ) — sprinkles of happiness: ‘Stop the Whining Gums’, ‘Senior Moment Suppressants’ and/or 'Suck It Up Candy’

* Littlehoothoot — Australian-made greeting cards inspired by their love of hand lettering and botanical patterns.

Won’t be long now before the OPEN sign appears pop by, say hello and wish us well. Until next time, stay safe — it’s a jungle out there! Molly, Zoe and Yvonne
